Es gibt gute Anleitungen wie man einen professionellen Twitteraccount erstellt und nutzt (z.B. bei Susanne Geu). Darum soll es hier aber nicht gehen, sondern eher um die Frage, was mir Twitter als Wissenschaftlerin bringt. Und warum ich Twitter nutze und weiterempfehlen würde. Deshalb: meine fünf besten Gründe warum sich Twittern für Studierende und Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler lohnt!
#1 Veranstaltungssuche und -dokumentation
Auf Twitter gilt das Folgeprinzip: ich folge Personen und Hashtags, die ich interessant finde. Die etwas Spannendes zu erzählen haben, die über neue Entwicklungen berichten, die ihren Alltag dokumentieren (der sich von meinem unterscheidet), die gute Witze erzählen können und vieles mehr. Oft sind es Experten für Spezialthemen, die ihr Wissen teilen oder ihre Arbeit dokumentieren. Dazu kommt, dass sie über Einladungen, spannende Veranstaltungshinweise, über Online-Seminare oder auch über Deadlines für CfPs berichten. So finde ich immer wieder Veranstaltungen und Einreichfristen, von denen ich sonst vielleicht nichts erfahren hätte. Auch wenn man selbst doch nicht zu einer solchen Veranstaltung kann, finden sich unter dem Hashtag immer wieder gute Hinweise auf Tipps, Dokumentationen, Präsentationen oder Kommentare der Teilnehmer.
#2 Vernetzung und Inspiration
Funktioniert wie #1 Veranstaltungen. Ich suche gezielt nach Personen, Veranstaltungen und Hashtags. So kann ich den Experten zu einem Thema folgen und gleichzeitig sind deren Folgeempfehlungen eine Fundgrube für weitere Experten zum gewünschten Thema.
Hier sind vor allem Twitterlisten extrem hilfreich, um weitere Spezialisten und spannende Accounts zu finden und für sich zu sortieren. Ich habe zum Beispiel die Liste „Medien und Kommunikationswissenschaft“ von Nele Heise abonniert. Oder News Bots von Nick Diakopoulos. Twitterlisten kann man folgen und sie als Inspirationsquelle nutzen, man kann die Listen aber nutzen, um selbst den Überblick nicht zu verlieren. Eine Liste an Personen, die zu meinem Forschungsschwerpunkt twittern habe ich hier erstellt.
#3 Inhalte und Papers
Funktioniert wie Veranstaltungen und Vernetzung: Interessante Menschen schreiben über ihre Expertise. Ich folge also den Expertinnen und Experten aus meinem Fachgebiet und meinem Forschungsschwerpunkt. Das sind u.a. Wissenschaftlerinnen, Journalistinnen, Beobachter und Expertinnen aus NGOs, Politik und Wirtschaft. Also den Leuten, die mein Thema mit vorantreiben. Ich habe auf Twitter Papers und Veröffentlichungen entdeckt, auf die ich sonst (so schnell) vielleicht nicht gestoßen wäre. Das gilt vor allem für neue und aktuelle Publikationen sowie Schriften, die nicht in Europa oder den USA erschienen sind.
#4 Tipps und Tricks
Neben den Forschungsschwerpunkten und thematischen Inhalten entdecke ich immer wieder Tipps und Tricks, die mir das (Wissenschaftlerinnen-)Leben einfacher und lebendiger machen. Zum Beispiel:

#5 Folgeempfehlung: Motivation und Blick über den Tellerrand
Ein Beitrag über Twitter wäre kein guter Beitrag, wenn es am Ende nicht noch ein #FF (*FF steht für #FollowFriday und ist eine Folgeempfehlung, die anfangs immer freitags ausgesprochen wurde) geben würde. Daher #FF für:

- deutsche Pendant Real Scientists_DE. Hier übernimmt jeder Woche eine Wissenschaftlerin oder ein Wissenschaftler den Account und twittert eine Woche lang über ihre oder seine Arbeit.
